National Day of Service Four Corners Materials Contribution

September 15, 2024

Four Corners Materials had the privilege of contributing to the Family Crisis Center (FCC) Landscape Project, a significant community initiative completed as part of the 2024 Farmington 9/11 National Day of Service. This project aimed to enhance the exterior of Marge’s Place, the FCC’s shelter for victims of domestic violence, transforming a former parking lot into a welcoming landscaped area.

In 2023, FCC expanded its shelter compound by acquiring and remodeling a second building at the corner of Apache and Wall Streets. However, the building’s integration into the shelter required rezoning, with the City mandating landscaping of the former parking lot as a condition for approval. The transformation of this area into a landscaped space was made possible through the collaborative efforts of several local businesses, including Four Corners Materials, which provided essential gravel and cobble materials for the project.

Cobble landscaping and drainage supports sustainability goals by allowing rainwater to naturally infiltrate the ground, reducing runoff and erosion. This helps replenish groundwater, minimize the risk of flooding, and decrease the need for artificial drainage systems. By using natural materials, cobblestone drainage also reduces the carbon footprint associated with more intensive stormwater management solutions.

The Family Crisis Center Landscape Project is one of six community service initiatives carried out from September 1 to 7, 2024, as part of the Farmington 9/11 National Day of Service. Four Corners Materials is honored to have played a role in this impactful project, contributing to the well-being of the community and supporting a cause that offers hope and safety to those in need.
