The New Mexico State Mine Inspector and the New Mexico Mining Association honored Four Corners Materials (FCM), one of the leading suppliers of sand, rock, ready-mixed concrete, asphalt paving and construction services in Colorado and New Mexico, as Safe Operator of the Year for the company’s outstanding safety record at an awards ceremony held Sept. 8.

Minimum requirements to earn recognition as Safe Operator of the Year include an MSHA frequency rate below the national average and no fatalities for the year. Employees at FCM Aztec crusher location not only met the minimum requirements, they safely worked 12,101 hours without any lost time injuries, lost work days or restricted work activity injuries from July 2010 through June 2011.

Kyle High, FCM general manager, said the company has devoted extra time and resources over the past several years to strengthen their safety program, policies and procedures through a behavior-based safety process that values the active involvement and ownership of every employee in the company’s safety culture.

“Our safety success is dependent on the efforts of each employee. We commend them for their daily dedication to working safely,” High said. “Our behavior-based safety processes will continue to provide training and support for our employees to become safety leaders.”
